Classic BBQ in Grant County

We often think about barbeque in the summertime, but it is wonderful year-round. Grant County offers classic, mouth-watering BBQ at several locations. Tasting is believing. We’ve listed our best BBQ spots here, so you can sample for yourself. Great BBQ is worth the drive!

Jefferson Street BBQ, Converse

Barbeque, homemade sides, ice-cold craft beer and refreshing cocktails are taken seriously at Jefferson Street BBQ. Just look at this brisket, juicy with a smokey bark. They make all their meat with tender, loving care – ribs, brisket, turkey breast and pulled pork. You can coat yours with sauce, but you won’t need it.

Can we talk about scrumptious sides? They are all homemade favorites, with a tasty twist. Pair your savory meats with pork belly baked beans, super slaw, mac-n-cheese, loaded bacon mash, mini wedge salad and their signature jalapeno cornbread. For dessert, you’ve got to taste the peach & bourbon biscuit or the bacon caramel cheesecake.

Every perfect meal needs a perfect libation, and Jefferson Street BBQ has an extensive bar menu that delivers just that. Beers on tap include several crafts and domestics. The variety of cocktails include margaritas and bloody Marys that are practically a meal. Their signature Old Fashioned is a must-try. Wines and seltzers are also available.

Open Wednesdays through Saturdays. While they officially close at 8 pm, when the BBQ is gone for the day…it’s gone. Call 765-395-5117 before you arrive to check on what is available.

Obi’s Barbeque, Marion

In Marion, Obi’s Barbecue is cooking up the classics using hand crafted rubs and sauces. Their delectable meats include chicken breast, pulled pork, smoked turkey, brisket and ribs. Also available are double smoked wings and smoked sausage. Try the pork belly burnt ends which they call “meat candy.” They are a delicacy.

The homemade sauces and rubs can’t be beat. Sample original sweet or original spicy. Like what you taste? Obi’s sells it by the bottle to take home. The one-of-a-kind rubs include meat magic and BBQ dust. You can take a package of these home, too.

Traditional sides include smoked beans, coleslaw, mac-n-cheese, collard greens and corn bread. Feel like adding some homestyle flair? Order a baked potato, French fries or a side salad.

Closed on Mondays. Otherwise, hours vary daily. Look for their food truck at local events.

Pappies Smokehouse & Lunchbox, Gas City

Serving slow-roasted Carolina BBQ, the aromatic smokey haze will greet you upon arrival. Pappies regularly has pulled pork, ribs, brisket and smoked chicken on the menu. Occasionally, prime rib and hot wings are offered. Use your imagination! Build a sandwich, bowl or put your favorite meat on cheesy nachos!

Complete your meal with savory sides including jalapeno mac-n-cheese, traditional mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, beans and ranch pasta salad.

For dessert, try one of their scrumptious homemade pies. Choose from cherry delight, mint Oreo, regular Oreo, peanut butter and pumpkin. Order a slice or a whole pie to take home. Either way, you don’t have to share.

A classic BBQ setup, they are open for drive-thru, carry-out and outdoor dining. Open Monday through Saturday.  Look for their blue food truck at area events.
