Amazing collection of memorabilia from the heyday of Matthews, Indiana. Part of the Trenton Gas Field, the town grew during the gas boom days of the early 1900’s and was a candidate for the location of the state capital. Founded in 1895, Matthews was named for then Governor Claude Matthews. More than 5,000 people lived here at the town’s peak. A replica of the Cumberland Covered Bridge, military memorabilia, glass bottles manufactured in Matthews, old business signs, yearbooks, pictures, etc. all tell the story of this gas boom town. Staffed by volunteers. No admission charge, but donations accepted. Open Tuesday and Saturday 2-5pm.
