Obadiah Jones Cabin

The first log cabin in Jonesboro, purchased by Obadiah Jones in 1834. Obadiah Jones founded the town of Jonesboro and lived on Main Street in this cabin. On display in the Jonesboro Park, restored and maintained today by the Jonesboro Historical Society. Site of the annual Old Settlers’ Day Festival.

Quilters Hall of Fame

International in scope, the Quilters Hall of Fame was founded by Hazel Carter of Vienna, VA to celebrate and document the lives of those who have made outstanding contributions to the world of quilting. Each year during the 3rd week of July, a quilting celebration with a variety of classes and lectures is offered as a new honoree is inducted. The Quilters Hall of Fame is housed in the Marie Webster House, which was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service in 1993.

Sweetser Switch Trail

Sweetser Switch Trail - Cardinal Greenway - trails near Marion Indiana

The Sweetser Switch Trail is the ideal place for walking, running, bicycling, roller blading and horseback riding. A paved and stoned trail stretches for one mile with beautiful landscaping, benches, shelters, and tables for picnics. The trail includes a 1916 wooden caboose, restored parlor car, and mail car for different recreational events. The Sweetser Switch Trail Pumpkin Walk is held annually in the latter part of October. Located 5 blocks South of State Road 18.

Taylor University is an evangelical, independent, interdenominational Christian liberal arts institution where faith, living, and learning are integrated. The mission of the university is to educate men and women for lifelong learning and ministering the redemptive love of Jesus Christ to a world in need. The campus consists of approximately 250 acres located on the south side of the town of Upland, Indiana. In the past twenty years, the University has constructed eight major buildings and performed extensive renovations on three others on its Upland campus.

The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, Marion Campus (formerly the Marion VA Medical Center) is on the national historic register and provides quality care to veterans of America, as it has for over a century. It is located on 144 park-like acres in southeastern Marion. Officially opened in March 1890, the first residents of the home were Union soldiers who volunteered for the military during the Civil War.
